What the Florida register tells you — and for how long

The Florida Bar is authoritative. It publishes bar number, standing, eligibility, admission date and discipline, and it stands behind all of it. There is one catch, and on this page it is a large one.

Florida publishes a ten-year window. That is the whole of the disciplinary history you can see online. Both partners at Gerson & Schwartz have been practising far longer than ten years:

  • Philip Gerson — admitted 1970. The window shows roughly 18% of his career.
  • Edward Schwartz — admitted 1982. The window shows roughly 23%.

Gerson’s 30-day suspension in 2018 falls inside the decade, so it appears, and we report it. Had it happened in 2014, the same page would show nothing at all — and Schwartz’s “None” means none since 2016, not none ever.

Compare Georgia, which publishes from 1991 and therefore covers whole careers. Same badge, different amount of evidence behind it. Older Florida history exists; it requires contacting the Bar directly, and we have not.

What we haven’t checked

Not established. Any disciplinary history before 2016 for either partner — 33 of Schwartz’s 43 years and 45 of Gerson’s 55. The firm’s other lawyers. Court records for case outcomes. A bar check is a floor, not a ranking.

Coverage grows market by market. If you handle rideshare cases elsewhere in Florida, tell us you exist — it costs nothing and buys nothing, but it gets you looked at. All states · How we work
